Switzerland: Procedure to grant 3 WiMAX concessions to be initiated before end-2005 Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 July 2005
ImageThe Swiss Communications Commission (ComCom) announced today that it has taken preliminary decisions to prepare a procedure for the granting of 3 concessions to utilise frequencies in the 3,41-3,6 GHz band for broadband wireless access (fixed and mobile). This frequency band is commonly associated with the emerging WiMAX standards.

A tender procedure is expected to be opened before the end of 2005, with concessions to be granted by means of an auction in the first half of 2006.

T-REGS Note: Today's ComCom announcement, read in conjunction with the report released by the Swiss Office of Communications (Ofcom) detailing the outcome of the public consultation (on which T-REGS reported earlier), suggests that it seems likely that a set of criteria will be defined, which will have to be be met by candidates before they will be entitled to participate in the auction.

The ComCom announcement (in English) can be accessed by clicking here.

The Ofcom report on the outcome of the public consultation (in French) can be accessed by clicking here.
